Ceramic lustres have been used for over 1000 years. They are an overglaze containing dissolved metals that are applied to  previously glazed ceramics…..There are a range of finishes from gold,silver,colours,mother of pearl etc….typically they are fired at a relatively low temperature in I might add “a well ventilated space”
